What is Peace Engineering?

Peace Engineering is an interdisciplinary field of study that combines engineering and peace studies to address the causes and consequences of violence and conflict. It aims to develop technical solutions and interventions to prevent, mitigate and resolve conflicts, and to build sustainable peace by engineering positive outcomes using Peace Data. The field of Peace Engineering draws on a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, computer science, finance, physics, mathematics, sociology, anthropology, psychology, and political science.

Examples of Peace Engineering projects include:

  • Developing tools and technologies to monitor and prevent human rights abuses

  • Designing and implementing early warning systems for natural disasters

  • Building infrastructure and services to support post-conflict reconstruction and development

  • Creating digital platforms for dialogue and collaboration among people from different communities

  • Developing technologies to support peacekeeping and peacebuilding activities

Peace engineering is a relatively new field and it is still developing, but it has the potential to make significant contributions to peace and security. It is a field with a lot of potential to impact the society positively.
